2nd September 2013
It has been quite a busy year here at Ankherwood. We moved into a new home, and have settled in well. Hogan has only been lightly shown this year but has done well, however has not returned to Europe as he has already gained both his Dutch and International Show Champion Titles.
He has also been to limited open shows, concentrating more on working tests and training.
Here are some pictures of what we have been up to since the start of the year;

Well what a year we had at Ankherwood. Hogan gained multiple tickets in Europe, gaining him his International and Dutch Show Champion titles. This also included several group placings, a group win and 8th Best in Show placing.
Hogan has continued to be versatile (!!!) entertaining people with his pictures and videos, and his videos have now been used at a school for disabled children in Leeds where they are used to calm the children down if they have an 'episode' - which is a real honour.
Enjoy the following pictures (Some are taken by myself, some are courtesy of Alan Ward, Sharon Harding, Penny Simpson & Jennifer Hurley);
1st October 2012
I am pleased to announce that yesterday, at Maastricht Internation Show in Holland, Hogan gained his International Show Champion Title. He gained this by winning the CAC, CACIB & Best of Breed, followed by a shortlist in the group.
8th August 2012
It has been quite a while since I have updated here, and for that I apologise. It's been a busy few months, and we have been having great fun in both the ring, and training in the field.
18th May 2012
We had a fantastic day at Birmingham National Championship Show, where the show was joined with the German Breeds festival. Under German Judge Herr Schad, Hogan won 1st Limit and the Reserve Dog Ticket.

25th March 2012
As the summer working test season is fast approaching and the weather has warmed up, Rosa has started having 'swimming lessons'. Enjoy the following pictures! (You might want to scroll your window to the right as they are quite large!)
9th March 2012
Hogan had a good day at Crufts, winning 1st in Field Trial Dog. We were proud to show him in this class, proving he is a true dual purpose gundog.
Rosa has been doing well at Open shows, gaining a 1st in her class, BPIB and PG2 recently at Swindon Open Show.
This showing lark is a bit exhausting Grandad...!
4th February 2012
We have had a fantastic few days. We attended Eindhoven CACIB/CAC International Championship in Eindhoven, Holland.
Hogan gained 1st Excellent in Open Male, followed by the CAC (his first), CACIB (his second) and then went on to gain Best of Breed!

The end of the shooting season is nearly here. Hogan has been doing shoot over days, and Rosa has joined him. I have not introduced her to warm game as yet, but she is being shot over.
24th January 2012
Rosa had a brilliant show ring debut at Machester Championship show, just 5 days after she turned 6 months old. She gained 3rd in a strong minor puppy bitch class, qualifying her for Crufts 2013, unfortunately she is 'docked and denied'.
Rosa also passed her Bronze Good Citizenship Award at the show.

We are very much looking forward to a quiet family christmas here at Ankherwood, and ended the show year on a high by winning 1st in Open, BOB and Gundog Group 1 at Chepstow & District Open Show on the 18th December 2011.
I have received some beautiful pictures, courtest of Greg Knight from Rural Shots Photography Rural Shots. Greg is a fantastic photographer and really captures the spirit of the dog in the photograph. He covers events as well as doing private sittings.
6th December 2011
Hogan has been enjoying picking up and beating this season on Llantwit Major Shoot in Wales.
29th November 2011
Hogan and I have just returned from Amsterdam where we attended the All Winners Show 2011 with Team Kavacanne (Sue, Adam & Heather Rose & James Gaffney). Out of the four dogs we had, each dog gained one of the four top awards available, and Team Kavacanne also won the breeders group, so we swept the board!
Hogan gained a 1st Excellent in Intermediate Dog, followed by winning the RCAC and RCACIB. This gives him his first 1/4 point towards his dutch title.
Adam and Morgan (Sh Ch/Ned Ch Kavacanne Toff at the Top JW) went on to win BOB and gain a group shortlist.
Rosa has been continuing her training this month and has mastered long memory retreives.
1st November 2011
Hogan and I went to our first field trial yesterday, run by the Bristol and West Working Gundog Society at Salisbury, under judges Fred Alcock and Mark Spearing.
On his first run he had a point, flush and was steady to shot, and lovely retrieve. On his second run he had a clean run but was a little wild, there were a lot of birds about! He went on to the water and did a brilliant water retrieve, and was awarded a CoM, one of only three awards given on the day.
I am so pleased with him as he has now earnt his stud book number through both working (an award in a field trial makes him eligible for a stud book number) as well as showing.
Here are a few pictures.
20th October 2011
Hogan and I had a fantastic time travelling around Europe over the past few weeks. We began in Belgium where we competed in a CACIT* field trial. No awards were gained but he ran well, his first time on sugar beet and potato fields, and another British dog, Sanjon Aramis owned and handled by Jon Roberts was awarded 2nd Very Good, one of the only two awards gained on the day.
A few days later we competed in a young dog trial in Holland and came very close to an award, unfortunately the bird lifted too soon and although Hogan was steady this was not sufficient enough for an award. However, the judge gave him another long run where he found no game, and said he was an 'excellent young dog with good style and head carriage'. We have come away with lots of things to work on for next time.
At the end of the week we went to watch the IKP, held in Germany, which was both an eye-opening and interesting experience.
Please enjoy the following video.
3rd October 2011
Hogan and I have returned home from a fantastic weekend Gundog Training with Mr Andy Cullen MBE of Laochin Gundogs. What a fantastic and innovative trainer, we will most definitely going back at any opportunity we can, despite the 6 hour drive from here to get there! A lot was learnt over the two days and I hope I can apply it all to our training at home. Here are a few candid shots from the weekend:
21st September 2011
Well, we've been rushed off our feet with the arrival of Rosa, who is beautiful but very, very naughty!!! Hogan has been doing a lot of training as we are off to Europe in a few weeks trialling, and Rosa has already started basic obedience. Here are a few videos for you to enjoy of little Rosa:
2nd September 2011
We have now welcomed our new addition, Rosa, to our home. Rosa, or 'Sanjon Continental Rose of Ankherwood' was born on the 15th July 2011 and is from European Working Bloodlines. She is settling in fantastically. Here are a few pictures. More information can be seen on her page on the links above.
29th August 2011
Hogan had a fantastic weekend in Ireland last weekend. On the Saturday at the IKC International Show under judge Mr P Muntean, he won 1st Excellent in Intermediate Male, followed by the Green Star (his first Irish ticket), followed by the CACIB (his first international ticket) and RBOB. We are over the moon with this success, however this unfortunately he has to move up to limit at only 21 months old!
The next day we also had success at the IKC National Show under UK judge Mrs Brenda Banbury, gaining a 1st Excellent in Intermediate Male, and the Reserve Green Star. We met a lot of lovely people and hope to return to the Emerald Isle soon!
23rd August 2011
Hogan had a good day at the WKC championship show gaining 2nd in a strong Post Graduate Class.

Hogan and I went the the BWWGS working test and competed in our first open, gaining a fantastic 90/100 and 10th place under Ray Davies.
7th August 2011
We have had a brilliant weekend proving what a versatile, dual purpose dog Hogan (Will I Am of Ankherwood JW) is. On Saturday 6th August we attended the National Gundog Association Show at Malvern, gaining a 2nd in a strong graduate class.
The next day we travelled back up to malvern to compete in the Brittany Club of GB gundog working test, in novice. He behaved brilliantly all day and won himself 1st in novice, qualifying out of novice into open. I'm not sure this is such a good thing, for such a young dog, at only 20 months!
2nd August 2011
We had a good day at Paignton Championship show today with Hogan winning 3rd in a strong Post Grad class, his first. We also had a good day on Sunday with wonderful company, at the Hungarian Viszla Society Working Test in Oxon, gaining 12th in Novice out a field of 34 dogs. He completed all the retrieves well, a lot of dogs failed on the split.

Well we have had a fantastic first trip to the continent, visiting Paris in France for the Championnat Du France and the World Dog Show 2011, with Karen Brown of Gamebourne Dual Purpose Gundogs.
On the Saturday at the Championnat Du France Hogan was 4th in Intermediate Male and graded 'tres bon' (very good). On Sunday at the World Dog Show Hogan was 1st in Intermediate Male and graded 'excellente' (excellent).
Enjoy the pictures!

4th July 2011
We are now all steam ahead for the World Dog Show in Paris next sunday... passports sorted, Eurotunnel Booked, Passes arrived, hotels booked... watch this space, we are all very excited!
Hogan had fun tonight retrieving Pigeons. We used a stocking at first because I didn't want to put him off with the feathers, as Pigeons lose their feathers easily. He loved it!
12th June 2011
Hogan and I travelled up to Doncaster to take part in the Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary GSPC Weekend, with a Test of Work on Saturday and a Championship Show on the Sunday.
We had a brilliant time gaining a 3rd in puppy (his last puppy test) at the Test of Work, topped by Hogan's sire, Isara Kurzhaar Pubcrawler (JW) gaining 1st in the Open Class.
6th June 2011
Hogan won 5th in Puppy and the award for the best water retrieve at the Worcester Gundog Society Working Test today, and 10th in Novice.

Hogan had a brilliant result at Windsor Gundog Society Premier Open Show today, winning 1st Junior, 1st PG, 1st Open, BOB and finally RBIS!
11th April 2011
Well we have just arrived back from an eventful few days supporting Jon Roberts of Sanjon Gundogs in Holland at the Spring World Championships of Field Trialling for GSP's. It was a brilliant few days and fantastic to see such quality dogs running. It is amazing the difference between dogs in our country and dogs on the continent, in both conformation and running style. Here are a few pictures of the weekend, more pictures can be seen on the Sanjon Gundogs website.
3rd April 2011
Hogan had a fantastic day at the German Shorthaired Pointer Association Championship Show at Elsecar today, winning both the Junior and Graduate classes under Richard Grewcock.
30th March 2011
We took part in Hogans first Grouse Pointing test today kindly held by the Bristol and West Gundog Society, judged by Fiona Wesley and Maureen Nixon. Hogan ran well, but was unlucky to not find game on either his first or second run.
13th March 2011
Today we took Hogan to the Westcountry Game Fair at the Bath and West Showground. He did the gundog scurries and an open level "mock up" working test which he really enjoyed. Enjoy the pics!
11th March 2011
Hogan had a fantastic first time at Crufts yesterday winning the Special Junior and gaining a 4th in Yearling and a 5th In Good Citizen Dog Scheme!
19th November 2010
Hogan is now 11 months old and has passed his silver good citizenship award. He is regularly training in the field and is showing a lot of potential, pointing and flushing and doing well with the whistle commands. His dummy work is consistent, but water needs a little work!
2nd October 2010
Well we have a little bit of different news for once. Hogan has recently completed his first working test in Camarthanshire - unfortunately the last one until April now. It was a special beginners class and we both thoroughly enjoyed it - and even more so when we discovered we had come second. It was such a lovely day and all the people were very accomodating. Prior to going to the test we did an evening training with Jon Roberts of Sanjon Gundogs
We also entered our last minor puppy class at the City of Birmingham class - and won - meaning that every single minor puppy class Hogan has entered at championship show level Hogan has entered, he has won - a clean sweep!
27th August 2010
Since Windsor we have had quite a few good results, at both Open and Championship level. At Minehead and district canine society we gained our first puppy grooup placing with puppy group four. The next championship show was Paignton, where he won the minor puppy gaining his first 3 junior warrant points, and was shortlisted in the Pet Plan Puppy Stakes. Here is a little video of him in the stakes:
This is what the judge said about us at Paignton:
"Fisher’s Will I Am, just 7½ months, very balanced outline, good work in the
head, well angulated quarters, topline, loin & tailset all good, well turned stifle,
low hock, moving well, feet OK, they will tighten up more as exercise increases
with age. Coat could be harder to the hand"
The next championship show was the same week, the National Gundog at Malvern, where he again won the minor puppy and gained another 3 junior warrant points. Here are a few pictures from that day:
This is what the judge had to say about Hogan at the National Gundog:
"Fisher’s Will I Am, best mover in class, lovely free flowing, ground covering
movement, well constructed masculine puppy, good topline, correct head
proportions, tight feet. Hope the light eyes will darken with age"
Next after the National, was another championship show, the Welsh Kennel Club. Another minor puppy win was brilliant for us, I feel he is really starting to behave himself now and we love showing off in the ring!!
This lovely picture was taken by Chris Wilson, who is a brilliant photographer.
The next show for us was an open show at Monmouthshire Agricultural show. Hogan did well with Best Puppy in Breed, 1st in the AV Minor Puppy and 2nd in the Puppy Stakes.4th July
Today we had a 5.30am start to get to Windsor for Hogan's first champ show. The summary of entries were really low, and when we got there discovered that unfortunately Hogan was the only puppy in his minor puppy dog class! He behaved very well, and got the first place meaning he has now qualified for Crufts 2011. He then went on to the dog challenge, and behaved well then too. He finally did the puppy challenge, and lost to a very nice puppy bitch, but still was impeccably behaved.
After walking around a little, we found a ring running the bronze good citizenship scheme awards, an award we were working towards at home in training. We decided to have a go, and passed the award!
This is what the judge said about us at Windsor:
"Fisher’s Will I Am, super l/w baby who is a good mover for age, excellent body
proportions, nice head & expression, good neck & shoulders, good topline &
tailset, liked his bone & feet, alone but has a lot of potential, will follow his
progress with interest"
27th June 2010
We had a great time today at Poole Canine Open show at Salisbury. Although the heat was almost unbearable (35 degrees!) Hogan was impeccably behaved. He gained a VHC in Post Graduate, 3rd in AV Gundog Puppy, and his second Best Puppy in Breed!
19th June 2010
Today Hogan went to his first open show at Exeter Livestock Centre. The only breed class available was an open so my little 6 month old puppy stood up next to seasoned show champions! We came away with VHC and best puppy in breed, which I was very pleased with. It meant we were critiqued so I await that being published in the dog paper. it was a very long day, and he coped suprisingly well, he was very chilled out given that it was his first time out!
22nd May 2010
Today we took Hogan to a Charity Dog Show/Fun day for a little showing practice. It was great fun, and the day finished on a high with Hogan winning reserve best in show!
14th February 2011
Hogan has been working hard on his gundog training recently. After being injured late last year and having 3 months off, he has gradually built back up and is now having the time of his life. He spent time beating this season and has now been introduced to Grouse. He has also taken part in several training days including Shoot Over Days.
